The Double Trouble Sports Bash Debut on KTHO: AM 590 and 96.1 FM
Your Entertaining Alternative to ESPN
From the studios of Lake Tahoe Radio and Television and seen to the northeast in Reno, Nevada and to the Southwest in Jackson, California, the ‘Double Trouble Sports Bash’ is a ferociously funny and intoxicatingly informative sports entertainment program hosted by ‘Dollar Bill’ and ‘Wally the Whale’ who are also heard on AM 590 and 96.1 FM: K-TAHOE. Local Talk and Classic Rock.
Co-hosted by veteran ESPN sports handicapper Tom Barton and featuring well known [KABC, KFI, KLAC, KIEV, KFOX] sportscaster Fred Wallin from Los Angeles, the current incarnation of 'The Double Trouble Sports Bash' extends exponentially, their geographical reach and insightful sporting repartee.
With over a century of sports knowledge between them, the ‘Double Trouble Sports Bash’ which has been airing in the Tahoe Basin and beyond for over two years has became the ‘most popular’ program on Lake Tahoe Television, a former affiliate of ESPN.
Identical twin brothers, the Blankenship Boys and their monozygotic origins not withstanding have taken the Reno-Tahoe broadcasting marketplace by storm with their juxtapositional bashing, humor and beguiling encyclopedic knowledge-base of all things relating to sports.
Having only introduced themselves to the California-Nevada region in the Summer of 2009, the ‘Double Trouble Sports Bash’ is an overwhelming mastery of the sports and comedy broadcasting milieu. And if you are listening to the ‘Double Trouble Sports Bash’ in your car, for your own safety and those of others, a traveler’s advisory:
PULL OVER IMMEDIATELY TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND WAIT FOR THE PERSIFLAGE TO PASS.
But enough of the printed word. And now. Here they are…’Dollar Bill’ and ‘Wally the Whale' On the Radio...
Extended Biography:
' Lettering' in four sports from Massachusetts High School four years in a row, the twins were only two of four athletes that accomplished that feat from 1965-1968.
‘Wally the Whale’ Blankenship was a New England wrestling champion in the 120 pound weight class while twin brother, ‘Dollar Bill’ Blankenship finished 2nd in his 127 pound weight class.
Both brothers played on the only undefeated 18-0 baseball team in Massachusetts High School history. ‘Wally the Whale’ was a cross country runner as well as a great point guard for his alma mater while ‘Dollar Bill’ played baseball and basketball for the same teams while also playing for the State of Massachusetts Soccer Champions in 1968.
From 1968-1972, the twins went into military service where Wally wrestled for and Bill played soccer with the US Air Force Teams.
Upon discharge in 1972, Bill attended Colorado University where he excelled in soccer, and was drafted into the North American Soccer League in 1976 playing for six years with the Colorado Caribou.
After his discharge, Wally made the US Olympic Wrestling Team as a first alternate in the 127 pound weight class but returned to the US without wrestling because of the Black September Munich Massacre terrorist assault of Israeli athletes during the 1972 XXth Olympic Games in Munich, West Germany.
Since 2001, Wally has become an accomplished boxing referee at the Olympic Trials, US Collegiate National Boxing Tournament and recently received his National Association Boxing Federation license.
Since 1989, ‘Dollar Bill’ has become the number one hockey betting ‘touter’ in the US known as the 'puckmaster' nationally, winning yearly betting contests and documented through Las Vegas Sports Books on a regular basis. For the 2010-2011 season, ‘Dollar Bill’ is already 11 and 1 on hockey selections on radio and television.
With their cacophonously competitive, comedic commentary and collective sports knowledge totaling over 100 years, ‘Bill and Wally’ are also 47-7-2 on their "best picks" segments for the year as they continue to amaze radio listeners and television viewers with their informatively fun, sports-comedy programs.
