Together, Around the Sun By Leland Thomas Faegre
|
'Together, Around the Sun'
| Description:
'Together, Around the Sun' had only a working title until just
before I went into final production, though I always had a celestial
interpretation as the divining guide throughout the creative process.
The trumpet motif heard throughout the piece represents our infinite and
circuitous planetary orbit as the quintessential living essence of our
earthly experience. Slowly, the elegance and grandeur of its mission
unfolds as cello, violin, French horn sections and various instrumental
components enjoin the elliptical journey. As though comfortably
seated upon the polar cap, the aural experience is an introduction to the
eternal continuum of creation.
"Round and 'round and 'round we spin..." ---Neil Young Story Behind the Music: The only accurate recollection I have of this composition is that it was written late in the 80's or early in the 90's in what I have often referred to as the 'Roland Architecture Period.' The piano part came first followed by the trumpet which was written in step mode much as Peter Townsend wrote the arpeggiated and recurring motif heard on 'We Won't Get Fooled Again.' Leaving only the drums and bass parts to be written completing the original sessions' arrangement where it remained until the Spring of 2005, when I returned to where I had left the composition and to at long last complete the production. |

"...this one definitely had a power and an authority that was undeniable.
Terrific arrangement, sense of depth, and sounds. This is really
good stuff. You clearly know what you're doing with getting sounds
and working in the studio. You get a really big sound..." ---Taxi, July 19, 2005 "Cinematic, dramatic...production, as well as performances...Trumpet, vibe seem to echo a bit of Handel's, "Water Music" perhaps more "new age" than video games but [this] spacey, atmospheric track is very effective...Excellent work..." ---Taxi, August 23, 2005 "...good fanfare approach and strong energy." ---Taxi, November 28, 2005 "...the trumpet loop is a distinctive element in this piece. Nice Vangelis/Isham vibe overall. The layering is effective and keeps the piece interesting...well crafted arrangements and solid musicianship..." ---Taxi, August 22, 2006 "I enjoyed the slow moving bass and piano moves under the track. Lots of enjoyable stuff..." ---Taxi, May 18, 2007 "...This is truly triumphant music and emotionally charged...and has a great spirit..." ---Taxi, September 30, 2008 |
A review by Eclectic Connection
Song: Together, Around the Sun
| It gives me great pleasure to add this track by E.C. Featured Artist Leland Thomas Faegre, but I'm not adding it because he is a featured artist - I probably would have done it anyway. Although it would be a short film, this could be a soundrack for a trip around the Sun (from earth that is). The repetitive trumpet might stand for the sameness of space. The various interjections of grandeur could stand for passing the planets between us and the Sun. Or on approach for the Sun itself, the majesty and pure awe of its raw power. Leland paints an incredible sound poem with this piece worth several listens. |
|
"...the mixing of obviously traditional instruments with modern and
sometimes unexpected instrumentation is what makes Leland's tracks so
great. He takes what some people consider to be simple "folk" music or
instruments and blends them into a tapestry of musical artistry that is a
pleasure every time." ---Andy, The Eclectic Connection |

This is wonderfully dreamy and catches the title. Feels like orchestra at manouvers round the sun. Classic composition technique, methinks. EQ, a tad too fat on the lines sometimes, but what a wonderful arrangement. Holds the listener steady in a dreamstate. Mellow, a real spliff to enjoy. Towards when the strings come in this feels like a cinematic piece for an american tv movie, love story. That is a good thing. I love those movies, especially the ones set in the early 80:s. The clothes, the feel, the decor. I should know as I once had a girlfriend that did the decors for theatre sets back in Paris. Peace. Thomas JT |

I just put my dictionary away after reading your intro...now I can listen to the song (G). Really enjoyed the listen. It creates a beautiful mood. Has that "other worldly" feel to it. Very well titled for the mood it creates. Excellent job.....VERY enjoyable......thanks.....Skipp |

This is a class act Bloke. I would let the listener define what they heard in it, a bit like a painting a la beauty and the beholder. Really enjoying it. Graham |

WOW. I saw a photo of flowers in a valley today. Most likely, it was taken in the Alps. I've never seen wild flowers so beautiful. The colors looked exactly like purple, yellow, green and blue paint spilled down the sides of the mountain. I commented to several people about us, as humans, just being a speck in this universe and we fail so miserably in our shortcomings in achieving those things we are capable of-much grander things than just taking up space on this earth. You, Sir, have achieved that. Thanks for sharing your gift. |
